Following a devastating car crash in May, Boney James has recovered and is looking forward to playing 10 concerts throughout the U.S. from now until December.
On May 15, Boney James was driving home from a show in Los Angeles when he was rear-ended at 70 MPH by a drunk driver. The accident resulted in a saxophonists worst nightmare: broken teeth, a jaw fracture and 14 stitches in his chin.
“I’m really excited to get back to playing shows,” Boney James wrote on his official website. “I broke my 2 front teeth in the accident and couldn’t blow for 6 weeks. I still have a brace on them and might still lose the teeth, but I’m able to play and need to get back onstage! I do feel very lucky to be alive, and being able to play my horn again is the best thing in the world.”

Boney James had a rocking 2009 and things are only looking up for this major force in the world of contemporary jazz music. This past year, James has been named Billboard’s #3 Contemporary Jazz Artist of the Decade and #1 Hot Smooth Jazz Artist. He is currently writing for his next album and has announced he will be holding an online search in 2010 to give undiscovered vocal talent the opportunity to appear on the new album.
Boney first came up with the idea after he asked his friends if they knew anyone new he could work with. For the Grammy nominated song, “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight,” James teamed up with a friend of a friend vocalist, named Quinn. “He really had the voice I was looking for on this track– a real retro/modern soulful voice… as soon as I heard it, I knew he was right…” Boney James is excited for this new venture, “I’m always trying to match a singer with a song.”
